A few minutes’ drive from Trapani city centre, the “Vincenzo Florio” airport at Trapani Birgi is extremely safe and well connected with all of mainland Italy and Europe, being the ideal gateway to arrive in Sicily for a language holiday. A very frequent bus service (by bus company AST) runs from around 5 am until 23pm to connect the airport with Trapani in just over 30 minutes.
The Palermo Punta Raisi Falcone and Borsellino Airport is also not far from Trapani (50 miles) and there is a direct bus that arrives in Trapani (bus company Segesta) in just over an hour. There are no direct train connections from either airport to Trapani.
During the high summer season, a shared shuttle service is also available from Palermo airport for about € 25 per person. It is the middle-of-the-road solution between the bus and a private shuttle service and it is very useful especially when a flight lands in Palermo in the evening, making it impossible to catch the last bus.
For those who come to study Italian by the sea and want to explore Sicily, we recommend renting a car to visit those sites that are not well connected by public transport. At both airports it is easy to rent a car.
It is also possible to book a paid transfer service to / from the airports of Trapani and Palermo. Upon request, Scuola Virgilio can help its students, individuals or groups, book a transfer service by car, minibus and coach. This service is free for all students enrolled at Scuola Virgilio.
